How To Install Desktop Mapping

* Register: Register yourself here for Desktop Mapping here and we will contact you with your passwords and ftp address.
* Install Java: We currently recommend Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0 found here, please click on the link about halfway down the page titled 'Download JRE 5.0 Update 3'. Accept the terms and conditions in order to progress to the download page, once at the download page choose your operating system and click to download. Should you encounter problems with the 5.0 Edition then we suggest trying the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition, v 1.4.2 (J2SE) found here, please click on the link about halfway down the page titled 'Download J2SE JRE'.

National Curriculum Mapping

The new 2001 geography curriculum documents released by the Qualification Curriculum Authority (QCA) contain the mapping requirements for Key Stages 2 and 3.

These six full colour maps identify areas of specific interest within the geography curriculum and were produced for the QCA by Ordnance Survey especially for this purpose.

Overwhelming demand for duplicate copies of these maps has prompted Ordnance Survey, with the agreement of the QCA, to publish further copies for teacher and student use.

HORIZONTAL CONTROL FOR GPS

For information on horizontal control points and their use as ‘passive stations’ we would recommend visiting www.gps.gov.uk. By registering (for free), you will then be able to access a full listing of passive stations and view written details, map locations and photos of the various locations available. This site is also excellent for many types of GPS resources including a program for GPS to national grid co-ordinate conversion.
